Helping you tell your story

Photography - the power of pictures

Why tell a story in pictures?

"Kodak sells film, but they don't advertise film; they advertise memories". - Theodore Levitt

What's the story of your business, the message you want to get across to your customers?

Think about it for a moment. Your customers buy things because of something. They want bigger, better, smaller, newer, different, smarter, and so on. Whatever the reason they buy something for the difference it will make.

The power of photography is that it helps people see what they want, not just what they buy. It's a hook for their imagination. They want to know that the thing they are buying will match up with the image in their mind's eye. That's why it isn't simply a case of taking a photograph. It's about making an image that communicates well with your customers.

You could just tell them, of course. Words are a perfectly good way of getting a message across to potential buyers. But consider this:

When people hear information, they're likely to remember only 10% of that information three days later. Pair the same information with an image and retention goes up to around 65% of the information three days later.

In other words, photographs aren't there to fill up space and add a bit of colour to your marketing. They are there to speak on your behalf and what they say has to add to your message. Photographs are a marketing tool.

You could, of course, take your own photos. Remember though that it's not just about taking a photograph, it's making a photograph. There's a difference. You could end up with a photograph that detracts from your message instead of adding to it. And there's no guarantee you'll end up with the quality you hoped for or the format you need (your printer and web designer each have different requirements). The big saving though is time - time you could spend doing the things you are really good at.

True, you could use stock photographs. But the stock photographer doesn't know your particular needs so the results will be generic. And unless you pay a premium the same photographs are there for your competitors to use as well.

Content with relevant images gets 94% more views than content without relevant images.

So what do you get when you employ a professional photographer? You get unique, relevant, high quality photographs, in the right format, that match the story you want to tell. You also avoid a lot of frustration!

As a bonus, the level of equipment used professionally is typically much higher which also adds to image quality.
